Almost 7 million students receive special education services
in America's schools. The greatest number of students referred for special education
fall into the category of Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). 80 to 90 percent
of the students in this category have been referred because they can't read, and
many have poor math skills. Identifying each student's specific disability is time-consuming
and costly. It benefits both schools and students when the need for placing a student
in special education can be averted.
A Response to Intervention Model (RTI) reallocates resources
and energy to teaching students what they need to know in order to succeed in general
education. Response to Intervention is a multi-tiered approach to providing interventions
to struggling learners. RTI allows for early intervention by providing preemptive
academic support rather than waiting for a child to fail before offering help. The
implementation of activities associated with Response to Intervention is expected
to have a positive effect on schools across the nation. RTI may be described as
a model addressing the needs of all students through a continuum of services which
provide:
high-quality instruction and scientific, researched-based, tiered intervention
strategies aligned with individual student need
frequent monitoring of student
progress to make results-based academic or behavioral decisions
data-based school
improvement
the application of student response data to important educational
decisions (such as those regarding placement, intervention, curriculum, and instructional
goals and methodologies
Today it is possible to use technology to identify and track
the progress of students that are having difficulty learning in a normal classroom.
XID’s RTI Tracker allows educators and administrators to first identify students
with problems, and then to assist students in their quest to get a quality education.
RTI Tracker provides easy-to-use screens to perform all
of these tasks:
Assessment scores of any type can be recorded and displayed. •
Plans may have defined performance targets.
Selected faculty has the ability to
create, and use, District-designed Intervention plans to help students achieve their
goals.
Unique Intervention Plans may be created for Tiers I, II, and III.
Intervention
Plans may be individualized for each student, if desired.
Teachers can record
student progress in a Plan with minimal effort.
All data is available for instant
recall for review and augmentation.
Data can accumulate over time, and historical
data is instantly available to the current teachers even when the students change
campuses.
When needed, referral meetings can be easily arranged, with email notification
to the participants.
If necessary, escalation to Tier II and Tier III plans is
quick and easy.
Defined reports are available for Administration and Staff
Reports may be produced as on-screen PDF’s, printed form, or saved as CSV (comma
separated values) for import into spreadsheets.
